Below are four development trends that exist in the iron-based powder metallurgy industry in China:

a. Improve the density of iron-based powder metallurgy and enlarge the alternative range that replaces the traditional forging with powder metallurgy products. At present, the mainstream iron-based powder metallurgy density is 7.2-7.4g/cm3 in china, while the enterprises that have most advanced technology in china have increased the density to 7.6g/cm3. Under this density, iron-based powder metallurgy has replaced most of the adapting pieces and partial function parts   of automobiles, machinery and so on. By considering the material saving and the environmental protection characteristics of powder metallurgy, the downstream space of this kind of iron-based powder metallurgy products can reach one hundred million Yuan in theory.

b. Further improve the consistency, precision and shape of powder metallurgy and upgrade the service of the industrial structure for machinery, automobiles, household appliances and other industries. These measures mainly aim to reduce the machine weight, save energy consumption, reduce discharge as well as realize equipment miniaturization and civilian.

c. Further alloying and realize lightweight and functionalization. Iron-based powder that is added with aluminum, magnesium, rare earth elements and other alloy powders will become ultra thin and have light weight, which can be widely used in electronic equipment, wearable devices and other fields that are closely related with daily life.

d. Improve the electromagnetism of powder metallurgy products so as to replace silicon steel, ferrite and other materials. Take oriented silicon steel as an example, the conductive principle of silicon steel are as follows: after being added with silicon and other elements, the iron loss will be reduced through the reduction of grain boundary; especially the oriented silicon steel, which is a kind of single and coarse crystalline grain in the conducting direction. Compared with one dimensional conducting direction of oriented silicon steel, powder metallurgy products can realize multidimensional conductive in any direction, which means that once a powder metallurgy product is formed, it can be regarded as the single grain. Currently, this kind of technology has made breakthrough in a few enterprises; if it can fully meet the requirements of industry, it can be widely used in the intelligent control systems of transformers, electric machines, new energy automobiles as well as the robots. The above four development trends basically represent the development direction of iron-based powder metallurgy products.
