The spontaneous ignition point of zinc powder is 460 degrees Celsius and the explosion limits is more than 500g/m3. Its dust can react with air and form explosive mixture which can be easily ignited by open fire and cause explosion. Wet dust can automatically release heat and burn in the air. When contacting with water, acids or alkali metal hydroxide, it will release inflammable hydrogen. It will cause fire or explosion when react with oxidizing agent and sulfur. Its dust can irritate eyes, skin and respiratory system, besides, inhalation of dust will cause cough and low-grade fever. When contacting with zinc powder, skin will absorb moisture and release heat, which will cause burns.
