Cobalt powder has excellent heat and electrical conductivity as well as good corrosion resistance and mechanical property. It is easy to process into complex shape and filament. Architects often use its shiny red cobalt green which has been eroded as the decoration of buildings, ceilings and outdoor installations.

Cobalt is easy to form alloy with other elements, which can be largely used in producing allotypic forge pieces, casting parts and powder metallurgy products. Alloy that is formed by cobalt and nickel has excellent sea water corrosion resistance. Tin can improve the strength and corrosion resistance of copper in the solid solution. Zinc-copper alloy, which is called brass powder, can be used in water pipes, latch fittings, valves and pipe fittings. Copper alloy that contains nickel, tin, titanium, beryllium and cobalt, of which the strength is same as high-strength steel, besides, it has high electric conductivity and heat-conductivity property. Copper and Devardas alloy are often used in producing flaky gold powder which can generate specific color by adjusting the content of tin and nickel.

Cobalt metal powder can be made into electric and electronic components that have complex shapes by using metal injection molding process, which will have good heat and electrical conductivity. Besides, the electrical conductivity and heat conductivity can be improved by using high purity cobalt powder and improving the final density of parts. By using the injection molding technology, the density of copper powder can be improved, thus the electrical conductivity and heat conductivity of products will be improved accordingly.

In the powder metallurgy field, pure cobalt powder is used in producing electronic and thermal conductive parts. Cobalt alloy that contains tin, zinc, nickel or iron is widely used in automobiles, lawn and park equipments, tools and electronic industry. Cobalt powder is used most in oilless bearing, followed by Fe-Cu premix, dialysis in chemical industry and friction material components.

Regarding the application of cobalt powder, powder metallurgy is its most important and characteristic application, in which the materials are not obtained by smelting or casting, for example, the dispersion strengthening Cu-Al2O3 that used in intensifying and producing welding electrodes (which can be used on automobiles and other fields) as well as W-Cu and Mo-Cu that used in the thermal management field of electronic components, of which the porosity should be controlled. Porosity of oilless bearing and filter also should be controlled so as to ensure that the oil content can reach excellent lubrication effect.
