Background Discovered in 1801 by Andrès Manuel del Rìo. Vandium is quite rare. It is a silvery-white soft metal. Alloyed with steel and iron, high-strength structural steel and wear-resistant cast iron can be produced. It is ductile and has a good resistance to corrosion by alkalis, sulfuric and hydrochloric acid.
Alloy Vanadium is used in specialty stainless steel. It is commonly used in surgical instruments. It is also used in rust resistant and high speed tool steels to lacrosse stick shafts.
